When will we learn to stop placating Republicans?
If they aren’t even going to appreciate or acknowledge that Democrats are meeting them halfway, why even try?
Swing Hard, Turn Left is dedicated to promoting progressive policy at the federal, state, and local levels. Far too often, when one level of government fails us, another must step in. That’s why we push issues around economic inequality, climate change, civil rights, and adequate investments at every level of government. We do this by holding those in elected office accountable and by pushing progressive policy that helps create equal opportunity. We are a 501(c)4 with a board of directors and can be reached at info@swinghardturnleft.com

When a senator sits in a private briefing and is told that the pandemic is about to wreck our tourism industry, and then sells all his shares in a hotel chain, one starts to get suspicious
From free college to tax rebates, both sides got something they wanted in Mills State of the State address. Or did they?
When our country was founded all you needed to vote in most states was to be white, male, and to own property. Being an immigrant didn’t matter. It still shouldn’t.
I so enjoy bragging about the effectiveness of progressive policies. Have you seen the impact of Portland’s Green New Deal and rent control?
In Gov. Janet Mills’ state of the state address, perhaps for the first time in Maine history, she said the words “Tenant’s Union.”
From Ronald Reagan’s race-baiting “welfare queens,” to George Bush Sr.’s Willie Horton ads, to Donald Trump (who didn’t even whistle), Maine Senate Republicans have now picked up the scent…
In my opinion, my case aside, no family should have their home taken away from them through no fault of their own. You want to make money off public accommodation, then understand the “public” also has rights.
A single mother who has paid her rent for years, a quiet elderly tenant who has never bothered anyone, a young family trying to build some savings to buy a home, all can be evicted with a cruel 30-day notice. Onto the street. Anywhere in Maine. That’s called a “no-cause” eviction.
Certainly some may argue that withholding donations to Democrats for their failure to rise to the occasion may do serious damage to our country in the short term. Indeed, I have argued the same for years. But economic boycotts always involve the courage to withstand short-term sacrifice.
I am a little tired of people claiming Maine is split politically. That there are “two Maines.”
Democrats often debate whether to spread the resources to all comers or target them to specific races. Wrong debate.
Let me reassure folks that Donald Trump’s current behavior is well within cognitive expectations.
How did Joe Biden get rid of Donald Trump and take back the White House? He didn’t…
